New Panteg 18 Fleur-De-Lys 20

Newly promoted New Panteg, entertained table toppers Fleur-De-Lys, eager to test themselves against quality opposition. Fleur came into this game on the back of three bonus point league successes, racking up a bag full of tries in the process. It was however, the Teg who came out of the blocks the fastest, scoring a fabulous try in the opening minutes. From a solid scrum 40m out, number 8 Gardner fed scrum half Ethan Winstone. Winstone used his winger as a decoy, throwing an outrageous dummy, and showing impressive pace to cross the tryline. The kick was narrowly missed, which was to become a theme for Teg. Fleurs enormous pack started to gain inroads into the Teg eight, and a flurry of penalties resulted. Kicks took the lead for the visitors, before they crossed for what would be their solitary try, courtesy of talented dancing feet from their wingman. Fullback Morgan Winstone narrowed the gap to 3 points with a penalty just before the interval.
Fleurs kicker was exceptional from the tee, and added three further second half penalties, countered by one from Winstone. As in previous games, Tegs second half performance was a testament to their impressive fitness levels. A flowing move was cleverly finished by pivot Jones and James added the conversion, to make it a two point game with minutes remaining. With the clock in the red the official awarded a very kickable penalty to Teg, to snatch victory. Unfortunately the kick drifted narrowly wide, much to the relief of the league front runners.
Despite outscoring their counterparts in tries, it was the huge penalty count and missed chances that ultimately cost Teg. This was again a great advert for grassroots rugby, with both sides playing with passion, pride and a huge amount of skill.
The coaching team singled out second rower Glynn as their player of the match. He was flawless in the lineout and carried with purpose and aggression throughout.
