New Panteg 8 Rhymney 43

Often when a sporting side are on the wrong end of a drubbing, excuses are sought to absolve their performance. Unfortunately for New Panteg, the honest truth is they were resoundingly beaten in all aspects of the game by a far superior side on the day. Teg exited the cup to a big, robust and clinical Rhymney team, who capitalised on their hosts numerous errors. Within six minutes of the first whistle, two Teg mistakes resulted in a 14 point lead for the Brewers, a lead that they never looked like relinquishing. Teg leaked tries at regular intervals, chasing a game where they where always second best. Bury scored Tegs only try at the start of the second half, to give the Teg faithful feint hope of another second half revival, but this aspiration was soon extinguished. One positive of a bleak day was the return to the playing field of Harry Chesse after a serious injury, and a solid performance from the bench earned him the player of the match accolade.
We wish Rhymney every success in their cup run, and despite the result, the coaching team are fully aware that you learn more from defeat than victory. We move on to the league campaign at home to Machen next Saturday.
