Bettws 12 New Panteg 27

When trying to maintain an undefeated record, an away trip to Bettws RFC is always testing, and this fixture proved no exception. New Pantegs scrum has been imperious of late, and the first score came from a huge push against the head. The turnover ball was quickly transferred to the smiling assassin Nattaphong on the wing, who emphatically beat the covering defence to cross in the corner. Bury narrowly missed the conversion, but made amends soon after with a smartly struck penalty. Bettws carried strongly and offloaded skillfully all afternoon, and they were rewarded with a well worked try. The resulting kick meant there was only one point separating the teams at the interval.
As has been the norm recently, Teg started the second period in decisive fashion. A breakaway move deep inside their own half and great interplay, saw mobile hooker Wakely score an impressive try, converted by Bury. Bettws were again undone by clever handling and great support work, as replacement centre Heneghan took the game away from the hosts. Teg saw off a battling Bettws with what had initially looked like an unlikely bonus point score, and it was the try of the day. A searing break from Nattaphong was supported by newcomer Jones at centre, who is showing huge potential. Jones turn of pace was too much for a beleaguered defence to cope with. A late touchdown by Bettws was testament to their never say die attitude displayed all game, giving Teg probably their most physical contest to date.
Tegs pack of forwards were imposing all afternoon, but the coaches singled out captain and prop Scott as man of the match for his leading by example.
Next week we take a rest from the rigours of our league campaign as we host Gwernyfed in the WRU Cup quarter finals. We call on all our incredible supporters to come out in force as our sixteenth man, and urge us on to the Principality.
