Another bumper crowd at Jarrolds Fields witnessed an enthralling top of the table clash, which standards belied a regular 4th division encounter. Anyone present at this fixture will testify that the calibre of performance from both sides was remarkable.

The reality is that the amount of possession, field position and scoring opportunities Teg had, they should have taken the spoils. However that is exactly why the Sarries are champions, as their defensive efforts were titanic. Despite having limited chances to score, when they did they were clinical and ruthless. Teg opted to spurn numerous kickable penalties, which was courageous but ultimately in vain, but this shows the confidence and unity within this tight squad.

Winger James Davies scored two excellent tries, one in each half, sandwiched between a try for Sarries, and Teg held the lead going into the final minutes. The game was won though with Sarries second touchdown late on, crowning them champions to jubilant scenes.

Although their was obvious disappointment in losing, on reflection, gaining a second place and promotion is an incredible achievement. The turnaround in fortunes, both on and off the field at the club in such a brief time, is nothing short of astonishing. Teg have consistently utilised their squad without the reliance on permit players, with the only incentives being, playing for the badge, fantastic camaraderie and forging friendships, plus some incredible tasty food. A small army of background volunteers work tirelessly to ensure this progress continues to flourish. We wholeheartedly congradulate Newport Saracens on a thoroughly deserved league championship, and look forward to continuing our competitiveness into next season.

This coming Saturday we bring our season to a conclusion, with our final game at home to Bedwellty. We urge everyone with an association or affinity with New Panteg to come along to celebrate our promotion, and to enjoy the promised tropical weather.
