New Panteg 52 Blackwood Stars 26

There can't be many division 4 sides capable of making 12 personnel and 13 positional changes from the previous weeks starting line up, and still rack up a half century of points. The coaching team tested the extended squad, and despite a very committed and capable opposition, Teg came away with another 5 point victory to maintain their promotion challenge. Despite some very challenging weather conditions of late, the playing surface was looking pristine, and a testament to the many volunteer man hours contributed by the groundstaff.
Within 5 minutes a lineout take was driven on, allowing flanker Chapman to benefit with a score converted by James. This was followed shortly afterwards by a textbook training ground move, bringing a wry smile to Tegs backs coach. Great handling and angles of running allowed speedster Gomez to scamper over for a glorious score. James again kicked the extras, before further invention from the three-quarters saw opposite wingman Oliver score wide out. Regardless of the scoreline this was far from a one-sided affair, with the Stars contributing to a magnificent grass roots game, with some enterprising rugby of their own. They reduced the deficit with a well worked try after concerted pressure, and converted sublimely from the touchline. Gomez added a further score just before half time to give Teg a healthy lead, and a try bonus point.
If Teg thought the second half would be a walk in the park, they were in for a rude awakening. The Stars scored 3 further tries for a bonus point of their own, including the try of the game, a length of the field score from their impressive fullback. These tries were interspersed between four further scores for Teg. A penalty try and scores from Mayo, Sullivan and Chesse, all converted by James.
The vote for Man of the Match was undoubtedly the easiest decision of the season. No. 8 Sullivan was imperious from the first whistle. His ball carrying was imposing, as were his defensive hits. Probably the most impressive facet of his game was his impeccable control at the base of the scrum, which was occasionally in retreat.
